The History of Yadapa. Yadapa started in 2006 by organising an arts competition for young disabled people in Kingston upon Thames. A series of fund-raising events and grant funding from Thames Community Foundation Local Network and Help a London Child allowed the competiton to go ahead with some great prizes including laptops and vouchers. Following feedback from the young people, in August 2007 a series of very successful art and music workshops were held. Funding was provided by Thames Community Foundation and Local Network Connection. In August 2008 thanks to Help a London Child, Jack Petchey Foundation and RBK Summer Uni we were able to run these very popular events again. 2009 saw the launch of Drama Club, funded by RBK Youth Opportunities and Aiming High. This was as well as the summer art workshops funded by Help a London Child, BBC Children in Need and RBK grants. 2010 saw both Drama Club and art workshops thrive, with funding from RBK Aiming High, private donations and fundraising events. Yadapa is a local charity working with young disabled people who live or are educated in the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames.
