These were very popular and great fun was had by all. Yadapa would like to thank everyone who attended and helped out making this a really special two weeks. Please take a look at our photos (coming soon) to see what fun we had and the amazing art that was created. Special thanks goes to all the artists and volunteers, to Rakat and their wonderful drivers, to Caremark, The St Johns Ambulance, The United Reformed Church, Thames Community and our funders, the Local Network Funding. We have had a huge number of requests to repeat these workshops in 2008. Sadly Local Network Funding no longer exists, so we have applied for funding from several other funders. Depending on how sucessful these applications are will determine what we will be able to offer. Hopefully we will know what funding we have and what we can do by the end of May 2008. Thanks for waiting so patiently! 2006 In 2006 we enjoyed a very successful arts competition with over eighty entrants, with a wonderful celebration of artwork by the young disabled people of Kingston upon Thames. Congratulations to everyone who entered, and thank you to everyone who helped us make it all possible. Now Yadapa is moving forward. We have received a lot of interesting feedback and we are working hard to move Yadapa in the direction that you would like. Yadapa is Young and Disabled and Positively Artistic, if that is you then you can be the voice of Yadapa. We would love to hear your views. If you would like to have a voice at one of our meetings, or just an informal chat, or maybe you would just like to tell us your thoughts and ideas, then please email, phone or write to us, just click on the contact link. What have we done before? We held a huge art competition covering every form of art created by young disabled people aged 11 to 25 who live, work or are in education in Kingston upon Thames. The aim of this event was to: a) encourage you to communicate your experiences of being young and disabled and the barriers you face in achieving your ambitions. b) provide opportunities to young disabled people to improve their independence and control in their lives, and in the community as a whole. c) raise the profile of young disabled people and the contribution they make to society. We held several fundraising events to help us stage the competition, and applied for grants from Thames Community Foundation / Local Network Connection and Help a London Child, which were successful bids. One of the events was a sponsored wheelchair push in central Kingston on 10th June 2006 which was very successful. Who was able to enter? Any young disabled person between the ages of 11 to 25, irrespective of their impairments, living, working or going to school/college/university in the Royal borough of Kingston upon Thames. You can enter as an individual or as a group. What forms of art could be entered? All forms of art were welcomed including: Visual arts (painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, film, graphic design, fashion, collage) Creative writing (stories, poetry, plays) Live art (music, singing, drama, comedy and dance) What were the prizes? There were two prize categories, individual prizes and group prizes. All participants received a certificate to acknowledge their contribution to the event. Prizes included: Individual prizes 3 laptop computers - these were Toshiba Equium L100-186 laptops Tickets for shows Vouchers for local art shops in Kingston or other shops. Group prizes There was a cash prize for each arts category. The closing date for 2007 workshop entries was Monday 9th July 2007.
